The headline says it all: If You Ate Today, Thank a Farmer. It's true.

I bring it up because today is National Ag Day 2017. I grew up on a farm. Since then I've lived in urban areas, but growing up around tractors, cows, hogs and chickens helped me realize it really true.

The farmers of the area are probably getting a little itchy to get out in the fields. It's the time of year when there's a lot of getting ready to get after it.

Or get ready, to wait.

That's the  thing about farmers I appreciate the most. Their flexibility and ability to wait and adjust to weather and markets.

As you eat today, take a look at it. Where did it come from. Take a look at what you drink today, too. Chances are it's farmer influenced.

And if your driving today, chances are your burning 10 percent ethanol. Yep. Thank a farmer when you see them today. Without them, we don't eat. Nobody does. According to AgDay.org;

What Is Ag Day All About?

Ag Day is about recognizing - and celebrating - the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:

  • Understand how food and fiber products are produced.

  • Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.

  • Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.
