I-229 Evening Closures Scheduled in Sioux Falls

Be advised that the traffic patterns will change on a major traffic artery in Sioux Falls beginning Wednesday night. The work will be done mainly at night to cause a minimum of disruption during peak traffic times.

A press release from the South Dakota Department of Transportation states that a project of setting bridge girders over Interstate 229 between I-29 and Louise Ave. in Sioux Falls starting on Wednesday, March 20 at 8 p.m.

The contractor will close the northbound lanes of Interstate 229 between Interstate 29 and Louise Avenue between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The evening closures will continue every night beginning at 8 p.m. until all bridge girders have been set over the northbound lanes, which is anticipated to be completed by Monday morning, March 25 at 6 a.m.

Beginning on Monday, March 25, at 8 p.m., the contractor will begin placing bridge girders in the southbound lanes of I-229 between I-29 and Louise Ave. between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The evening closures will continue every night beginning at 8 p.m. until all bridge girders have been put over the southbound lanes, which is anticipated to be completed by Thursday morning, March 28, at 6 a.m.

This work is being done in conjunction with the I-229 Solberg-Tallgrass overpass project. Overall completion date for the $6.25 million project is August 17, 2013.
