Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel Headline ‘Human Rights Concerts’ DVD Box

The Human Rights Concerts 1986-1998
Shout! Factory

Live performances from some of rock’s biggest names will make their home-video debut on the new box set ‘¡RELEASED! The Human Rights Concerts 1986-1998,’ due Nov. 5.

The six-disc DVD box, which arrives alongside a two-CD companion set, collects highlights from the Human Rights Concerts presented by Amnesty International from 1986-1998, with net proceeds from sales of the DVD set and CDs benefiting Amnesty’s continued work on behalf of human rights around the globe. Although it features performances from a broad timespan, the set’s release is timed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of arguably the organization’s best-known run of shows: 1988′s ‘Human Rights Now!’ tour, which tripled Amnesty International’s membership rolls while treating millions to a star-studded lineup headlined by Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N’Dour.

Featuring 120 songs extended over 12 hours, the main body of the box is supplemented by an additional five hours of bonus material, adding up to a whopping 17 hours of viewing in all.

The bulk of the set consists of four concert films: ‘A Conspiracy of Hope,’ culled from Amnesty’s 25th-anniversary concert tour of the U.S. in June 1986; ‘Human Rights Now!,’ from shows in September and October 1988; ‘An Embrace of Hope,’ recorded during an October 1990 concert in Chile celebrating the end of 17 years of dictatorship; and ‘The Struggle Continues … ,’ from a Paris show in 1998 that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the signing in that city of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Of the four films, only ‘The Struggle Continues’ has been previously made available for purchase. In all, roughly 85 percent of the box’s contents are making their home-video debut.

For more information about ‘¡RELEASED! The Human Rights Concerts 1986-1998,’ including dates and times for special screening events, visit the Human Rights Concerts website. The box is currently available for pre-order at a list price of $59.98.
