When a woman falls in love with and marries a farmer, she probably has no idea just how her life will change. She might not realize just how unpredictable her life will become, that there will be time spent alone and that her life will be a mixture of learning new things and change.

As if being married isn't tough enough, just like in farming, there are no two days that are exactly the same. Life as a farmer's wife can be an adventure, often times being forced to learn things like strength in yourself and patience.

There is no doubt that marrying a farmer will change your life and these changes are forever. Learn early that the good times will be good and the tough times will only make you stronger as a person and as a couple. Even though you may want to pull your hair out some days, know that his job is one of the most important in the world, and you can be proud of being the one standing beside him and supporting him.

After being inspired by (and totally agreeing with) blogger Jenny Dewey Rohrich, I decided to share why being married to a farmer will change your life. Here are at least five of the most basic ways your life as a farmer's wife will become different.

    You Develop An Inner Compass

As a farmer's wife, you suddenly become pretty good at directions. Not only north, south, east and west, but you know landmarks and where other people live. Because when your husband tells you he needs you to bring him something and he says he's in the southwest corner of the field just north of where "so and so live", you have to be able to find him.

    Your Laundry Will - Change

A farmer's wife will need to get used to the fact that she will find random things in the laundry. It could be anything from drill bits, nails and screws to ear tags, corn or soybeans.

    Eating Is An Adventure

A farmer's wife should know that supper time is never the same. One night you could be eating at 7:00PM, the next night you could be taking a tinfoil wrapped dinner plate out of the warm oven at 10:00PM.

    Date Nights Are Different

Date nights with your farmer husband take on a whole new meaning. During planting and harvest, date nights are usually nights spent in a tractor or combine and date nights during the summer usually include "crop-checking".  As a farmer's wife, you just learn that if you want to see your husband, you go along for the ride.

    Forget the RSVP

A farmer's wife knows that the RSVP that came in the mail to a friend's wedding, is probably not going to be answered, especially during planting, spraying, calving or harvest. The ability to know if you (as a couple) are going to be available on any given Saturday at 2:00PM is not possible. Events like weddings, banquets and get-togethers usually become a "spur-of-the-moment" thing - like if it's raining.
