The 130th South Dakota State Fair gets underway today in Huron, South Dakota. The fair will run through September, 7, 2015.

If you're planning a road trip, here are a few things you need to know:

  • Gates are open from 7AM-8PM each day.
  • The motto for this years fair is Sew it. Grow it. Show it.
  • The big entertainment in the Grandstand this year features Kenny Rogers on Friday, September 4. The Band Perry will perform on Saturday night and Huey Lewis and The News on Sunday night.

Okay, now for the really big news. Here's how you can get FREE admission and reduced gate admission.

If you're a 4-H member, you get in free all day today, simply by showing your 4-H card.

Veterans and active military men and woman also get free gate admission today.

If you think you make a better looking Colonel Sanders than Darrell Hammond does, prove it. Anyone that dresses like the Colonel on Monday gets in for free that day. Here's the deal though, your costume must include white pants, white suit and tie. It doesn't hurt to have a pair of wee "beady" eyes like the Colonel either. But that's not required, however.

There are also a few ways you can get reduced gate admission too.

Simply stop by Prostrollo Motors on east highway 14 in Madison on the way to the fair Friday, September 4, to pick up a Prostrollo's rollback $1.00 off coupon good for reduced admission that day only.

And finally there's the "Drive to End Hunger." Anyone brining in a non-perishable food item to any gate between 7AM and 10AM will receive $2.00 off gate admission.
