Andy Johns, the legendary engineer behind The Rolling Stones Exile On Main Street and Led Zeppelin IV has passed away at 61.

Johns was the youngest brother of another legendary studio man, Glyn Johns and started his career in the mid 60's, working as second engineer as a teenager on Jimi Hendrix records.

Johns would later work with Rod Stewart, Jethro Tull and Humble Pie, before working with Keith Richards for several years on the masterpiece Exile record.

Johns engineered dozens of classics including Led Zeppelin II, III and IV, Eric Clapton's Crossroads, Free's Highway in addition to Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Bon Jovi, Chickenfoot and others.
