The Sioux Falls Helpline Center kicks off its new Volunteer Connections program in Brookings on Thursday, July 14 with an open house and ribbon cutting. The open house runs from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

The public is invited to stop by the new program, located at Brookings United Way, 619 5th Ave, to learn more about how Helpline Center Volunteer Connections can connect them with meaningful volunteer opportunities in the community.

Amy Ballou is the new Volunteer Connections Coordinator in Brookings,

“So many people are willing to volunteer, but are unable to find a volunteer job that suits their interests and skill set. With Volunteer Connections, we can help them find that volunteer job and, as a result, help make our nonprofits stronger.”

The Volunteer Connection program was established through a donation from the Brookings Area United Way. Heidi Gullickson is Executive Director,

“Through various community conversations, we learned that Brookings area residents wanted a way to easily connect with volunteer opportunities in their communities. Volunteer Connections gives us just that - a comprehensive approach to volunteer recruitment, tracking and engagement.”

During the July 14 open house, the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at 1:00 PM. Attendees will also be invited to participate in various hands-on volunteer projects while enjoying cookies and refreshments.
