HBO Orders Mike Judge’s Pilot ‘Silicon Valley’
Mike Judge has made a business of defining generations, be they high-school burnouts listening to metal like ‘Beavis and Butthead,’ ‘Office Space’ workers listening to their bosses drone on about T.P.S. reports, or even future generations of an ‘Idiocracy’ that nourished its crops with a sports drink believed to mutilate their thirst. This time, however, Judge is headed back to TV with HBO to define the ‘Silicon Valley’ generation, so what fresh spin could the ‘King of the Hill’ creator bring?
While the network continues to dominate its drama division with hits like ‘Game of Thrones‘ and ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ HBO is expanding its comedy slate as well with some very reputable names. The latest, as Deadline reports, is none other than ‘Beavis and Butthead’ and ‘King of the Hill’ creator Mike Judge, whose animated resume is matched by his live-action hits like ‘Office Space,’ ‘Idiocracy’ and ‘Extract.’
The prolific creator has set his sights on developing half-hour comedy ‘Silicon Valley’ for the network, which follows “the high tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” Judge will direct the pilot, to be co-executive produced with fellow ‘King Of The Hill’ EPs John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky.
The spring-filming pilot joins several recent comedy additions to the network, including Christopher Guest’s ‘Family Tree‘ and Stephen Merchant’s ‘Hello Ladies,’ both which are ordered to series. Will you tune in for ‘Mike Judge’s ‘Silicon Valley’?
