South Dakota could be on the way to drawing a line in the sand in opposition to any new restrictions on guns that could be made by Washington. The bill passed the State Affairs Committee yesterday 8-1.

The measure does not try to void any legislation passed in Washington, recognizing that the U.S. Constitution does not allow states to defy federal law. What it does do is say that South Dakota opposes any new gun regulation and directs the attorney general to fight any legislation that is viewed as contrary to the second amendment.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says he favors the bill. And despite the one descending vote, no one spoke against it.

The bill will now go to the full senate.
