An organizer of a local citizens group, hoping to stop the construction of a new city administration building, says he is amazed how many signatures have been collected for the petition drive in a short amount of time.

Bruce Danielson of Citizens4Integrity says the Stop the Funding campaign, which is also spearheaded by a former city councilor Kermit Staggers, has at least 3,000 petition signatures.

Danielson announced the details during the city council meeting Tuesday 23, 2016. His focus now is collecting petition sheets currently in circulation and planning another drive up and sign event.  The cost of the city administration building is 22 million dollars, with bond sales scheduled for October.

The group needs 5,750 signatures to bring the issue to a public vote.  Their goal is to collect 6,500 signatures.
