Former Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic were interviewed this week on National Public Radio about the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of In Utero, the final studio album recorded by the group before frontman Kurt Cobain took his own life in April 1994. Recalling the Minnesota studio in which the album was cut, Grohl said, “I’m sure it’s a beautiful place to hang out in in the summertime. Unfortunately, we were there in February. It’s outside of Minneapolis. It was, like, subzero arctic temperature. But that room where we recorded the stuff, the room sounded great and it was a comfortable place to be.”

The pair also spoke about “Forgotten Tune,” a previously undiscovered instrumental track recorded during the In Utero sessions that will make its debut on the reissue.
Novoselic said, “We found it and were like, what is this song? And I don’t really remember. And (we were) like, what do you want to call it? And I’m like, I don’t want to give it a name, so let’s just call it ‘Forgotten Tune’ and let people make up their own minds what it is.”
“Forgotten Tune” will be among the 70 tracks included on the three-disc deluxe reissue of In Utero, which is set for release on September 24th.
