It's been a very busy week for Gregg Allman. News of William Hurt signing on to play the Southern Rock legend in a movie based on his memoir started the week. Then came the bombshell (for fans anyway) that Allman Brothers Band guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks would be leaving the band at the end of 2014.

So the All-Star tribute to Allman Friday night (January 10) in Atlanta, seemed like a great way to wrap the week.

In corresponding with people who were at the show, they've all said it was one of, if not THE best concert they've been to.

From Haynes starting the show doing the Allman Brothers Band classic "Come and Go Blues", to Keb' Mo' paying tribute to Allman's most recent release Low Country Blues with "Just Another Rider, to country music's Trace Adkins covering the Allman solo classic "I'm No Angel" (and then telling the sold out crowd that "This is the coolest thing I've ever done in my career), it was a full out Allman love fest and jam.

The question now becomes "what becomes of the Allman Brothers Band"? Gregg has said he wants to do another solo record, plus he's got the movie starting shooting next month. Haynes and Trucks are done at the end of the year to continue their own bands, Gov't Mule and the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Trucks' uncle Butch (long time drummer of ABB) has talked about wanting to retire for awhile, it seems to me like a perfect time to ride off into the sunset as it were. It's the band's 45th anniversary, they don't record anymore and barely tour outside their March Madness run at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. In my mind, it's time to make these final shows (and hopefully add a few more) as a farewell tour to the band, but certainly not to the amazing musicians.
