The 39th annual "Great Plains Hot Air Balloon Race" returns this weekend in Sioux Falls. Hot air balloons will fill the Sioux Empire sky, Friday and Saturday, August 15 and 16th weather permitting.

The balloon race kicks off Friday night at 6pm from Kenny Anderson Park at 3918 E 6th Street in Sioux Falls.

25 balloons and their pilots will be racing to an undisclosed target. Don't forget to bring your cameras to capture the beautiful view.

The race resumes again on Saturday at 6:00am as balloons ascend from Kenny Anderson Park. Then at 6:00pm on Saturday night, the race will begin again from various locations throughout Sioux Falls with the target being placed at Kenny Anderson Park.

This is South Dakota's only hot air balloon event, and it will attract balloonists from Sioux Falls and surrounding states.

The main event on Saturday will help support the Children's Miracle Network. $5.00 raffle tickets will be available to purchase. Each raffle ticket gives you a chance to win a hot air balloon ride, which will be given at a later date.

In addition to the race, the balloon glow is scheduled to take place on Saturday night. If the weather looks like it's not going to cooperate, the glow will take place on Friday night.

Bring out the entire family both days for all the fun and cheer your favorite pilots on!
