A plan to re-name a San Francisco amphitheater after the late Jerry Garcia is not sitting well with Deadheads.

More than 1100 of them have signed an online petition protesting the name change to Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in Excelsior, near where the Grateful Dead founder, singer and guitarist grew up. They're not so upset by the name change as they are by the transfer of the theater to Los Angeles-based non-profit Levitt Pavilions, which helps fund renovations for outdoor venues and puts on 50 free shows a year. They say the move would rob the venue of its independent spirit.

With only 2000 seats, the venue hosts less than 10 events a year.
