I developed a phobia about bees at a very young age. A friend and I tried to get a hive off his parents house and 'dispose' of it. That resulted in about a dozen or so stings and getting pretty sick. Then we heard all over the news that there were swarms of killer bees working their way towards the U.S. borders. That didn't help my phobia any. Now comes this story.

At least 28 people have died and hundreds have been injured in a wave of attacks by giant hornets in central China. The hornets, also known as Vespa mandarinia have reportedly chased victims and stung some as many as 200 hundred times. The venom from the stings can cause anaphylactic shock and kidney failure. The queen bee can grow to quite disturbing sizes

Maybe I'm not so sad to see cooler temperatures coming. I don't know if I'd be ready to spend a lot of time outside knowing THESE things are out there.
