Outside of a vague 2014 release window, we didn't know when Nintendo was planning on releasing major Wii U titles Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8. Now, thanks to the publisher's German GM, we have a better idea of what to expect. Maybe.

Speaking with German site Neckar-Chronik (and translated by CVG), Nintendo Germany GM Bernd Fakesch talked a bit about how Nintendo plans to drive success for the Wii U with major releases. This year was a bit slow, save for these final few months when we got The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World. That same drought shouldn't be an issue for Nintendo in 2014, especially if Fakesch is telling the truth about when Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8 are due to arrive.

"At Christmas we now want to inspire with titles like Wii Party U, Wii Sports Club, Wii Fit U and all of course Super Mario 3D World," Fakesch said. "For next spring [we have] two more big license games also announced with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros."

It's been hinted at before Mario Kart 8 would be coming in the spring, but this is the first we've heard anything about when to expect Super Smash Bros. Due out on the Wii U and the 3DS (and 2DS), Smash is easily one of the most anticipated titles of 2014 on all platforms, let alone Nintendo's. Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer to find out whether or not these release windows hold true.
