Sioux Falls Police are trying to solve an incident of fowl play. A gaggle of dead geese were found Wednesday morning near the city’s namesake.

Spokesman Sam Clemens only had minimal information to share at the police briefing Thursday morning.

"This was north of Falls Park Drive. I don't have an exact number, but several dead geese were found. All appear to have been shot."

Police will be able to provide more information once a supplemental report is completed such as the exact number of geese that were found and what kind of gun was used. Animal Control is leading the investigation, but could ask for assistance from South Dakota Game Fish and Parks if needed.

Discharging a firearm is illegal within Sioux Falls city limits, plus the goose hunting season for a region including southern Minnehaha and Northern Lincoln Counties ended on February 12, 2017. It is currently unclear whether there would be surveillance footage of the area to help identify potential suspects.
