Former Stampede Star Thomas Vanek To Test NHL Free Agency?
Thomas Vanek was one of the Sioux Falls Stampede’s all-time greatest players to suit up at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Vanek, has since moved on to college, and to the NHL, and now wants to explore a new opportunity.
Vanek’s decision will likely mean the Isles will try to trade the Vienna, Austria native before the March 5 NHL trade deadline.
The nine-year left wing told Newsday why he wants to explore the open market in free agency:
“It’s just me being a little selfish. I guess and wanting to get to July 1 and seeing what’s out there. It has nothing to do with the team and where we are in the standings. I think this team has tremendous upside.”
Vanek is in his first-year with the Isles, after spending the first part of the season with Buffalo, along with the previous eight years with the Sabres.
In 641 career games played, he’s scored 269 goals and assisted on 267 goals.
