So far, we've been pretty lucky in Sioux Falls and the surrounding areas. We haven't had any measurable snow. We haven't needed to break out the shovels or plows and worry about snow alerts.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, that changes Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says 3 to 5 inches of snow may collect in south central and southeast South Dakota, extreme northwest Iowa, and the southern sections of southwest Minnesota. But there is some uncertainty in these amounts, as temperatures will be borderline between rain and snow.

The NWS is predicting about three inches of snow in Sioux Falls during the day Tuesday and maybe another inch in the evening before moving out of the area around midnight. The snow looks like it will stay south of I-90 across the state of South Dakota with higher amounts along the Nebraska border where those areas could see up to a half foot of snow.

The forecast for the rest of the week calls for sun and highs in the low to mid 40s so whatever we get Tuesday should hopefully be gone by the end of the week. But you'd better get your shovel out of the closet and make sure there's gas in the snow blower since this is just the start of winter in the midwest.
