First It Was a Data Breach, Now It’s an Equifax Phone Scam

The Federal Trade Commission is out with an Equifax scam warning. This one targets victims of the Equifax data breach from a few months back.

The scam involves someone calling and/or emailing victims of the data breach claiming to be from Equifax and asking them to verify their account information.

If you get one of these calls or receive one of these emails - do not give them your information. It's a scam.

It's been estimated the original data breach could impact as many as 143-million people. That's why the Trade Commission wants to get the word out about this scam.

The Federal Trade Commission has also put together a web page explaining what to do in the event you get a bogus call or receive a suspicious email.

To see if you've been potentially impacted, Equifax has also set up a special website - equifaxsecurity2017.com.

The company is also offering free Identity theft protection as well as credit monitoring for anyone who had their information compromised.

Credit experts remind you to never share personal information with anyone who calls or emails you.
