Here's a challenge for you: ask any woman to rate the appearance of a firefighter on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest rating. I'd be willing to bet the average score will fall between 8 and 9. If not a solid 10 almost every time.

Let's be honest, most women view the average firefighter as a stud muffin. Think about it, show me a calendar filled full of pictures of chiseled-body firefighters, and I'll show you a group of weak in the knees ladies drooling all over it.

If that's true, here's news that should excite every woman in the Sioux Empire.

The Sioux Falls firefighters are going to be showing off their stuff this September, as they challenge themselves and others in the "Step Up For Heroes" event on September 17, 2016, at Howard Wood Field.

The event is designed to honor our nation's heroes in a unique way.

During the event area firefighters will be joined by community members, people from the law enforcement community and members of the military from around the region.

Everyone participating will put on an athletic challenge that requires climbing 110 flights of stairs, the same amount those who lost their lives on 9-11 completed climbing the Twin Towers in New York City.

Participants need to know this is not a race, it is a memorial stair climb, where each climber participates at their own speed.

All the money raised during the challenge will stay right here in Sioux Falls and will be given to each fire crew. In turn, firefighters will give the funds collected to where they see a need in the community.
