The call came in around 1:00pm Sunday about a fire that was burning near Wall, SD. There had already been a Red Flag warning posted because of warm, windy, and dry conditions in western South Dakota.

Crews arrived to find privately owned land, plus part of the Buffalo Gap National Grassland ablaze.

Through the course of what is now known as the Cottonwood Fire, more than 100 head of cattle were killed and several structures have been destroyed.

The now charred area is located 11 miles east of Wall - land just north of the Badlands.

Travelers have reported extremely hazy conditions in western South Dakota.

According to WDIO-TV, the blaze has been ruled human-caused.
