Texting and driving in Sioux Falls is against the law.  However, according to the latest data I've heard, suggests that more adults than teens are texting while driving and getting cited for it.

Regardless of age or gender, texting while driving can have tragic, heartbreaking consequences.

Alexander Heit, a 22 year old student at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, was texting while driving.  When he caught himself veering into the other lane, it was too late. He jerked the steering wheel, and ran off the road, rolling his car.  He died shortly after the crash.

Alexander was a model student and his driving record was spotless.

Heit's parents and the Greeley police are hoping that the photo of his last text will serve as a strong reminder of the consequences texting and driving can have.

"In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you," Sharon Heit said.
