Despite what some may try to tell you, it really does matter where you get your news.

According to Buzzfeed, during the race to the White House, more Americans than ever before turned to "sketchy" news websites.

Rather than turn to tried-and-true news organizations, more and more people went to the kind of websites that serve up bogus stories and partisan agendas.

Over the past three months, the top 20 fake news stories got 8.7 million views, shares or reactions on Facebook, while the top 20 real stories got 7.3 million.

Facebook and Google have since both pledged to do more to prevent spreading lies.
