Elton to Receive Homeland Honor

Sir Elton John will be presented with the first ever Brits Icon Award at a ceremony in September, before the February Brit Awards -- and will later be broadcasted on ITV. , According to Nme.com the new award will be given out at a different event every year.

Sir Elton said in a statement, "It's a tremendous honor and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I'm really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion."

The Brit Awards will take place on February 19th, 2014 but Sir Elton will receive his award on September 2nd, 2013.

Sir Elton was forced to cancel his summer tour dates earlier this month after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
