Elton John and Rod Stewart teamed up onstage last night (September 2nd) in London, according to Vintage Vinyl News. The longtime friends closed Elton's nine song set at the Brits Icon Event, held in his honor, by performing a duet of Elton's 1984 Top Five hit, "Sad Songs (Say So Much)." Rod had earlier presented Elton with the prestigious award. During Elton's set, he premiered two new songs from his upcoming album, The Diving Board -- "Home Again" and "Mexican Vacation." Elton's set also included such classics as "I'm Still Standing," "Your Song," "Philadelphia Freedom," "Bennie And The Jets," "Tiny Dancer," and "Rocket Man."

Prior to the event Elton said: "It's a tremendous honor and a real thrill for me to have my work acknowledged in this way, and I'm really looking forward to participating in what promises to be a very special occasion." The gala included a surprise video tribute from such notables as Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Annie Lennox, Mumford & Sons, Billie Jean King, longtime partner David Furnish, and lyricist Bernie Taupin, among others.
