I knew when I saw the story about a Minnesota elementary school "canceling" Christmas that everyone would just loose their collective minds, screaming about political correctness run amok. And I was right, and I'm not just talking about my last name.

Here's the problem: most people see the headline "Minnesota Elementary School Stops Celebrating Christmas and Other Traditional Holidays" and immediately jump to conclusions without EVEN BOTHERING TO READ THE STORY!

If they had bothered to read the story they would learn that most of their student body probably doesn't even celebrate Christmas.

According to the school's own website, 64% of the student body is Asian and 24% is African. More than half the students speak English as a second language.

I got news for you people - not everyone in the world celebrates Christmas or Easter or Valentine's Day. It would be like you going to school in China and having to celebrate the Autumn Moon Festival (it's an actual thing - look it up).

I have two friends who live in China and one that lives in Vietnam. They know about Christmas and there are the odd Christmas decorations around the city, but for the most part they don't celebrate it. Most don't even have the day off from work or school.

People rail about government or societal overreach. This is actually a perfect example of the exact opposite.

You have a school administrator who looked at the make-up of his student body and determined that celebrating some traditional holidays did not make sense for his students and in some cases would make them uncomfortable. He made a decision that was in the best interest of his students, rather than what the far-right or far-left wanted.

So, instead of breaking out the tar and feathers, this administrator should be celebrated for doing what was best for HIS students - not YOURS.
