Dukes of September to Shoot PBS Special
The Dukes of September, the supergroup/soul revue featuring Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs, will be recording their performance tonight (Nov. 16) at New York's Lincoln Center. The concert will be broadcast on an upcoming installment of PBS' 'Great Performances' series.
Tickets for tonight's show were offered to donors who gave $60 or more to WNET, which is New York's public television station and the "Channel 13" referenced in Billy Joel's hit, 'Pressure.'
429 Records will release a DVD of the concert at an as-yet undisclosed date. We presume that the DVD will also be offered as an incentive during future PBS pledge drives, where it will sit alongside Roy Orbison's 'Black and White Night' and Yanni's 'Live at Red Rocks' on donors' shelves.
The three stars have been working together as the Dukes of September since 2010, playing their myriad hits and some of their favorite classic soul songs. The group has its origins in Fagen's New York Rock & Soul Revue, which toured from 1989-1993.
