About 2:00 this morning, a police cruiser was heading south on Six Mile Road near Rice Street when they were hit by a northbound vehicle that couldn't stay in their own lane.

Deputy in field training Derek Gulbrandson saw the oncoming car swerving and tried to avoid the accident, but were hit on the driver's side and forced into the ditch. Gulbrandson was taken to an area hospital with a minor knee injury

The driver of the other car, Trevor Buckholtz and his passenger were both transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Buckholtz was charged with Possession of drug paraphernalia and Marijuana, Ingestion of marijuana, reckless driving, DUI Drugs, no driver's license and no seatbelt.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
