A new documentary titled David Bowie: The Last Five Years is set to premiere in January, while original director Mick Rock premiered a re-edit of Bowie's video for "Life on Mars?" You can watch the new clip above.

David Bowie: The Last Five Years will explore Bowie’s final projects – including The Next Day, Blackstar and the musical Lazarus – through previously unseen archive footage, unreleased Bowie interviews and discussions with friends and collaborators. A highlight of the documentary, which will air on the BBC, is an exclusive recording of Bowie’s original vocal for “Lazarus.”

Meanwhile, "Life on Mars?" was one of four videos that found Bowie collaborating with Rock. The singer transferred copyrights for the originals to the director in the '90s, opening the door for this intriguing update. He has now added a series of new scenes – including a black-and-white epilogue – after Parlophone requested the "Life on Mars?" re-edit.

Rock said there was plenty to work with, even without a well-constructed concept. "I had an amazing subject and an amazing song – this was the song that had turned me on to David – so what else did I need?" Rock told the Guardian. "David never looked like this at any other time. He never wore that suit again, never had that makeup on again. He never looked more amazing – like a space doll."

Also arriving in the run-up to the one-year anniversary of Bowie's death in January 2016 is the David Bowie Legacy compilation, due on Nov. 11, and Bowie at the BBC, a December broadcast on BBC Four that compiles rare archive clips of Bowie performances from 1964-2016.
