Cure Kids Cancer Hero Drains Shot in State Basketball Tournament
We met 15-year-old Tanna Kingsbury of Letcher, SD today. Her story is amazing for several reasons.
In March of 2013 she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a bone cancer typically found in teenagers. That’s pretty tough to deal with, especially for a girl who loves sports.
Flash forward to March 14 of this year. Her high school basketball team, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, was in the State B tournament earlier this month. In the semi-final game against Hanson she got in and drained a shot.

There is another amazing facet to Tanna’s story. Her brother Tark is a student at USD and an Executive Committee member for USD’s Dance Marathon, a fund raiser for Cure Kids Cancer. On the day of the Dance Marathon, Tanna and Tark’s dad, Kevin, drove to the event in Vermillion to tell him the news. Afterwards the event took on a whole new meaning.
