Coyotes Open NCAA Tournament With An Easy Drive, Tough Match-Up
South Dakota’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament begins close to home.
The Coyotes open Saturday at 5:30pm in Ames, Iowa, a four hour drive away, as the number 15 seed, taking on number two Stanford.
USD is in the tournament thanks to the automatic bid that came with winning the Summit League Tournament earlier this month.
South Dakota is 19-13, Stanford is 29-3.
The Cardinal are led by senior Chiney Ogwumike, who’s 3rd in the nation in scoring (27 points per game) and field goal percentage (61%). She is also in the top ten in rebounding (12 per game) and double-doubles (24 in 32 games).
Stanford has made eight final four appearances in the last 20 seasons, but have non won aa national championship since 1992.
The Coyotes are led by junior Nicole Seekamp’s 15 points per game and sophomore Tia Hemiller’s six rebounds a game.
The winner plays the Iowa State – Florida State winner Monday in Ames.
The game will be televised nationally on ESPN 2.
