‘Conan The Barbarian’ Returning With Arnold
If you think of Arnold Schwarzenegger's long career as an action star, his career-launching title role in 'Conan The Barbarian' comes to mind (or at least it should come to mind). Fans of this hit movie now have something to celebrate as it's just been announced that the star will reprise his role for a 'Conan The Barbarian' reboot titled 'The Legend of Conan'!
Deadline was first to report the announcement made by Universal Pictures, who have just inked a deal to reunite this famous movie star with the role that essentially launched his career. Writer/producer Frederick Morgan is said to have hatched the story and will possibly be tackling production duties as well, along with Paradox Entertainment CEO Fredrik Malmberg, of whose company owns the rights to 'Conan The Barbarian.'
Although the official plot has yet to be announced, Malmberg has given out some details to hold us over. According to him, "The original ['Conan'] ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make... It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle." He goes on to say that his vision for the film skips over Jason Momoa's storyline in the 2011 'Conan The Barbarian' reboot and that of the previous 'Conan the Destroyer.'
"I always loved the Conan character and I’m honored to be asked to step into the role once again," said Schwarzenegger. "I can’t wait to work with Universal and the great team of Fredrik Malmberg and Chris Morgan to develop the next step of this truly epic story."
