We are off to a fantastic season of racing. Some very close finishes and several different drivers winning.

Sunday at Phoenix we saw a fourth different winner in as many races so far in the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. And a victory at the finish line that took everybody's breath away.

Kevin Harvick edged Carl Edwards by .010 of a second. And even more exciting, Edwards and Harvick made contact at the start/finish line in a finish that was the closest in series history at Phoenix International Raceway.

In a story that I published the day before the race, I said perhaps Harvick was the guy to watch at Phoenix. It turns out he was.

This time he brought the number 4 Chevrolet from the 18th starting position to the win. It was his sixth time winning at this track in the last eight races and fifth in the last six.

Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin finished third, while his teammate and pole sitter Kyle Busch finished fourth.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who started 26th and led for 34 laps, rounded out the top five. A great comeback in the race was Jimmie Johnson's 11th place finish after starting at the rear due to crashing in qualifying.

The race featured five cautions and four different leaders.

In the previous races this year, Denny Hamlin won Daytona, Jimmie Johnson at Atlanta and Brad Keselowski took the victory at Las Vegas.

Next race is Sunday's Auto Club 400 at the two mile track in Southern California, straight East of Los Angeles.
