The National Chicken Council (yes it's real!) has issued a statement saying demand is up for chicken wings leading into Super Bowl weekend while production is down. Does that mean they'll have to cancel the game is we don't have enough wings for the parties?

Production was down this year due to the high cost of corn and feed prices and in fact, are the highest priced portion of chicken right now. Here's a helpful hint, at our parties when we do chicken drummies, we use legs. They're cheaper and have a LOT more meat.

But with the drought last summer and the high feed prices, chicken producers saw about a one-percent drop in the number of chickens and that's a BIG problem heading into what is the second biggest eating day (after Thanksgiving)

The stat I loved the best was about the amount of chicken wings expected to be devoured by Americans during the game: 1.23 BILLION. With San Francisco facing Baltimore next Sunday, if those wings were laid end to end, they would stretch between the San Francisco 49ers Candlestick Park and the Baltimore Ravens M&T Bank Stadium 27 times.

So we may have to make due with mini tacos, and chili, and chips, and meatballs, and brownies, and pulled pork sandwiches, and maybe a beer or three. And someone PLEASE remember the antacids!
