Halloween is more steeped in tradition than just about any other holiday, and the roots of those traditions are as varied and seemingly unconnected as a pumpkin and a bonfire.

Few cult films have been able to define the term as clearly as 1975's Halloween classic ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show.’ Decades after its release, toilet-paper toting fans still show up week after week at midnight screenings across the globe dressed in fishnet stockings and full makeup. They not only watch the same movie they’ve seen hundreds of times, they also act it out and throw props at the screen. The only way it could be more of a cult is if some kind of live goat sacrifice was involved.

It's Halloween! That can only mean two things: 1) Scary things that go bump in the night, and 2) girls wearing senselessly provocative outfits. Oh yes, girls in so-called sexy costumes have become as much a Halloween tradition as pumpkin carving.

Discovering a Pikachu pug or a Rabbi cat will never, ever get old. We have absolutely no explanation regarding this adorably aww-worthy obsession, but we’re pretty sure most of you will agree with us. But why does it seem like we limit our dressing-up-pets possibilities to dogs, cats and the occasional baby pig? Don’t quote us, but we’re fairly certain a zombie apocalypse is pending. Why? The fact that ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ was renewed for a second season is reason enough to believe it. But even the military is prepping for a zombie takeover, and in all honestly, we’re totally on board! Halloween is the best holiday around, hands down. Why? We get boatloads of candy for free, we can dress up as Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and no one will bat an eyelash. Is there anything more magical than parading around in ridiculous garb and entering sugar coma after sugar coma? No way!

I'm not into scary things but I do enjoy going through the Jaycee's Haunted House. This year my daughters begged me to take them. With much hesitation I agreed but with warnings, such as no waking me up in the middle of the night because of nightmares, they are just people wearing masks, they will try and scare you, and don't scream in my ear.
