We've all heard ads before from car dealers referring to all the "smoking hot" deals they have on the lot, but I guarantee you none of them were quite like this.

After taking an interested couple on a test drive on Thursday, a salesperson from the Vern Eide Chevrolet dealership in Mitchell noticed smoke pouring out from the front end of the SUV they were driving as the vehicle was being backed into its spot.

According to Fire Marshal Marius Laursen, soon after they returned to the dealership the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The SUV was totaled and the cause of the fire is unlikely to be determined as the front engine compartment melted.

But Laursen suspects a mechanical failure may be the reason.

No one was hurt in the incident. However, two other vehicles on the car lot received cosmetic damage as a result of the fire.
