Canned Heat Compilation Due
The late Canned Heat singer, slide guitarist and harmonica player Alan Wilson will be focus of a two-CD compilation that takes its title from his nickname, The Blind Owl. Known for his high-pitched lead vocals on the band’s hits “On the Road Again” and “Goin’ Up the Country,” which he adapted from old blues numbers, Wilson died of a drug overdose in 1970.
Wilson’s death came two weeks before Jimi Hendrix’s, a month before Janis Joplin’s and 10 months to the day before Jim Morrison’s. All four were 27 at the time of their passing.
The album, which spotlights the songs he sang and soloed on over the course of a half dozen Canned Heat recordings, will be released on April 16th.
