As a candidate should, he or she needs to speak out when given the opportunity.  Larry Rhoden who is vying for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in South Dakota did exactly that regarding the recent debt ceiling vote.  The current South Dakota State Senator representing District 29 issued the following statement criticizing the suspension of the debt ceiling without corresponding reforms.

“Washington failed again to protect America’s future when it voted to suspend the debt ceiling. Instead of considering serious spending cuts and reducing the size and scope of government, President Obama and Congress kicked the can down the road.

"This is generational theft and is fiscally irresponsible and morally wrong.  If I were in the US Senate, I would have voted ‘NO’.  We need bold conservative reform in Washington, which means passing a balanced budget amendment and embracing conservative solutions that will shrink the size and scope of government.”

Rhoden along with Annette Bosworth, Stace Nelson, Jason Ravensborg, Mike Rounds  are in the hunt for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
