GARY, IN -- The U.S. Steel Yard has become a very friendly place for the Sioux Falls Canaries.

The Birds remained undefeated in five games this season in the Gary SouthShore RailCats’ home with a 4-1 win on Saturday night. They improved to 8-1 this season against the wildcard-leading RailCats (47-37) and clinched a three-game series ahead of Sunday’s finale.

Ben Moore (9-6) earned the win with a bend-but-don’t-break performance. He allowed only one unearned run in seven innings, giving up seven hits but stranding eight RailCats runners – six in scoring position. Moore did not walk anybody and struck out four batters.

Jared Clark opened the game’s scoring with an RBI double in the second inning, and he came home on Stephen King’s two-out hit for a 2-0 Canaries lead.

The ‘Cats responded with a run in the third inning, but the Birds added two more in the top of the fourth. Kevin Dultz singled with one out, went to third base on King’s double, and scored on Nick Van Stratten’s groundout. Cory Morales then singled home King.

Reliever Chris Allen tossed a perfect eighth inning, and Alan DeRatt threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 20th save of the season.

The Canaries (37-49) are 6-6 with one game remaining on a 13-game road trip. They return home for a six-game home stand on Tuesday night.

The series finale with the RailCats is at 2:10 p.m on Sunday.
