Last week’s announcements that several South Dakota men were charged with sex trafficking during the Sturgis motorcycle rally is nothing new to the organization Call to Freedom in Sioux Falls.

Director Becky Rasmussen says the arrests do make a difference.

"I definitely believe that these undercover sting operations serve as a deterrant for those purchasing individuals for sex trafficking. In return what that does is curb the demand for sex trafficking victims."

Rasmussen says there are several difference types of human trafficking, with the most common being where the victim knows the person who is marketing them.

Interstate trafficking, where victims are brought into the state is also happening.

Call to Freedom works directly with victims of human trafficking, assisting with temporary housing, counselling, and equipping them with resources to start a new chapter in life.
