Buckingham Recalls Pre-Fame Nicks Demos

2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks' only album as a duo under the moniker Buckingham Nicks. With a long-awaited reissue being considered for the near future -- not to mention the album's raised profile in the new Sound City documentary -- we asked Buckingham about the album -- and more specifically about the duo's pre-fame "coffee plant" demos recorded before their 1971 move from Northern California to Los Angeles.

Lindsey Buckingham says that the legendary bootlegged "coffee plant" demos were a direct result of their previous band Fritz failing to make any headway in Southern California: "That band did as much as we could do to try and get a deal in L.A. and we failed, but people in Los Angeles seemed to have some interest in Stevie and myself, so. . . And it was really only at that point that she and I got romantically involved, as well. So, what we did was, my dad had a coffee canning plant up in San Francisco -- up in Daly City, actually. And we would drive up there after-hours and work at night up there with a four track (recorder). And we were basically just assembling songs, but also trying to find a style we could call our own, y'know?"
