Bruises on Sioux Falls Boy Leads to Child Abuse Charges

It’s a tip of the cap to a Sioux Falls School nurse who was looking after one of the students.

A Sioux Falls man allegedly struck his girlfriend’s son on Sunday. Police Officer Sam Clemens says when the 13 year old got to school on Monday, the wheels started turning to get to the heart of the matter.

“The school nurse noticed he had some bruising on the side of his face. She notified the School Resource Officer and that’s where we got involved. Apparently mom’s boyfriend was upset with the boy on Sunday hitting him hard enough that he left some bruises.”

32 year-old Derick Christiansen of Sioux Falls was charged with Felony Child Abuse. Police arrested him at his Summit Avenue home on Monday.

Clemens also says that boy’s mother was home at the time of the incident, but did not pursue the matter further.
