Traffic was curtailed in a critical area to allow for bridge removal at the convergence of two major roadways in Sioux Falls. It’s another piece of the construction puzzle.

Vehicles on Interstate 29 through Sioux Falls are still coursing their way through the four lanes provided to them with two going north and two going south. Earlier this week the bridge that carried travelers south on their way out of the city was taken down. A new one will take its place with additional space to carry more cars to match up with Exit 73.

Over the course of this year much work will be done to expand those lanes to allow for more traffic. Much of the previous surface which was once concrete covered by asphalt starting at the Lincoln County line has been removed.

Cars were stopped from using I-229 underneath the bridge in order to permit safe removal conditions. It took just a couple of overnight sessions to complete the task.

Debris removal is the current task for those crews of which there is still plenty. Plus there is the gravel base that has been formed to help haul that stuff out. Expect some time to pass before any new concrete is placed.
