Brian May is mourning the loss of his friend and fellow astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore, who he co-wrote the 2006 book with, Bang! The Complete History of the Universe. Moore died Sunday in England. He was 89.

May says, "For many years Patrick has been a dear friend and a kind of father figure to me. I am going to miss him terribly, as are all his close friends and colleagues; and the world has lost a priceless treasure, that can never be replaced..."

Moore was the host of The Sky at Night, which aired on BBC-TV for more than 50 years, making it the world's longest-running television series with the same original presenter. Moore was an animal lover and donations can be made in his name to Cats Protection.
