A campaign is under way to honor the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham with a statue in his hometown of Redditch, England.

Three businesses there are trying to raise the money, and their effort has the support of Bonham's sister Deborah, who says, "I’m absolutely thrilled about it. John was unassuming, so he’d probably be a bit shy about it –- but I know he’d be very proud. I wish it had happened when my dad, mum and brother Michael were alive. To see it up there will be very emotional. It’s just wonderful to know he mans that much, and his music brought that much joy to so many people."

There will be a fundraiser this Friday in Redditch, and Michael Bonham's book on his brother, John Bonham: The Powerhouse Behind Led Zeppelin, has been republished to help drum up some cash.

John Bonham died in 1980 after an all-night drinking binge.
