Bono is in Washington, D.C. this week to meet with members of Congress in an effort to try and convince them not to cut U.S. development assistance programs from the budget.

Kathy McKiernan, a spokeswoman for his ONE Campaign, says his goal is to stress the effectiveness of U.S. foreign assistance programs and the need to preserve them to avoid putting at risk progress made in fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. On Monday, Bono paid a visit to students at Georgetown University where he talked about the power of social movements. On Wednesday he will host a chat online with World Bank President Jim Yong Kim on the challenges of eradicating poverty.
