(AP) - Bobby Vee's sons are racing against time to preserve his musical legacy.

The St. Cloud Times reports Vee's sons Tommy and Jeff are archiving hundreds of hours of Vee's analog recordings. Many of the recordings are on cassettes, reels and acetate discs, and the goal is to transfer them to a digital format before they deteriorate.

Radio producer Al Neff is helping with the project and says they've uncovered an acetate of Vee doing a half hour radio show and what may be some rare Buddy Holly recordings.

Vee retired in 2011 after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
