Bob Dylan’s song ‘Farewell’ appears on the soundtrack to the upcoming Coen Brothers movie ‘Inside Llewyn Davis,’ which won the Grand Prix at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The soundtrack was released on vinyl at indie record stores today, and will be available on CD and digital formats on Nov. 11.

Dylan recorded ‘Farewell’ in 1963 during the sessions for his album ‘The Times They Are A-Changin.’’ But it remained tucked away in Dylan’s vault until 2010’s ‘The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 -- The Witmark Demos: 1962–1964.’ It has been recorded by Pete Seeger, Judy Collins and Dion.

‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ stars Oscar Issac as a folksinger in Greenwich Village in the early '60s. According to NPR, which is streaming the soundtrack, it appears to be loosely based on the life of Dave Van Ronk, who was the linchpin of the downtown folk scene in its heyday and had an encyclopedic knowledge of folk and blues. His song ‘Green, Green Rocky Road’ is also on the soundtrack. Van Ronk, who was known as the “Mayor of MacDougal Street,” died in 2002 due to complications from colon cancer.

Of the other 12 songs on the album, six are sung by Isaac, including a duet with Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons. Co-stars Justin Timberlake and Carey Milligan also make contributions to the album.

The soundtrack was produced by the Coen Brothers and T Bone Burnett, who collaborated in 2000 on the incredibly successful soundtrack to ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ Rolling Stone says that the new album's price will also be a throwback to the '60s. It lists for $5.98.
