They’re doing their part to improve water quality in the Big Sioux River. A group of salon owners and Audubon Dakota are teaming up for an event on Friday.

Four locations in Sioux Falls carry Aveda all-natural hair products. Kahli Bryant with Bryant Salon and Spa says this fundraiser fits with the goal of cleaning the Big Sioux and make the channel more hospitable for people and wildlife.

“They’re going to put some money to help preserve natural habitat for water. The Boys and Girls Club will also build some bird houses alongside the river, too. We’re hoping that we can fish, kayak or swim in the Big Sioux in the next couple of years.”

Audubon Dakota certainly has a stake in improving habitat for the birds along the waterway. Bryant describes the cycle that plays out if no one makes the effort.

“Whatever is going on in our water is what’s going on in the bird’s water also. (It’s possible that) their young are not hatching correctly, the eggs aren’t looking right or the birds may become sick off of the water. The effort is really aimed at making a better quality of life for natural species and for us, too.”

The event starts at 7:30 PM Friday (April 21) at Grand Falls Casino featuring Dueling Guitars as entertainment and there will also be a silent auction.

Tickets are available at Bryant Salon and Spa, Vanessens, Hair Essence and Belle Touche’.
